Who We Are

A Quick Introduction
to Sussex APC

Sussex APC is a short-term, high-impact provision where young people are supported to reengage with learning and build the confidence to take their next step.

Our college creates a structured, supportive space for students to develop self-regulation, rediscover motivation, and prepare for a successful return to mainstream school or their next stage in education. We’re here to give young people the tools, belief, and momentum to move forward and to remind them that progress is always possible.

Our ethos is simple

1

Reengage with learning, themselves, and their community.

2

Refocus on strengths, goals, and skills for life.

3

Reintegrate into education, training, or work and ready to succeed.

Our Mission

From preparing for their next setting to exploring future employment, we help students find pathways that work for them. This is where potential turns into progress.

An Introduction from our Executive Head Teacher

Here at Sussex Alternative Provision College, we operate across eight centres, providing high-quality education and support for young people across Sussex.

We offer full-time places for children and young people who have been permanently excluded, are at risk of exclusion, or are out of school for medical reasons. Our hospital school also provides specialist education for pupils who need support while unwell, while our Blended Learning Team delivers tailored packages for those requiring flexible, medical-based learning. In addition, our 3R Team supports mainstream schools by offering proactive strategies to help pupils manage challenges early and remain engaged in education.

At APC, we believe in giving every learner a fresh start, helping them rebuild confidence, reignite ambition, and prepare for the next stage of their journey. We understand that education is lifelong, and we address both the emotional
and academic needs of our students to ensure lasting progress.

Whether you’re a pupil, parent, carer, or visitor, I’d like to warmly welcome you to Sussex APC. I hope your experience reflects the pride, purpose, and passion that define our community.

— Doug Thomas, Executive Head Teacher

What Makes Sussex
APC Different?

For many students, coming to Sussex APC follows a difficult moment a crisis point, an exclusion, or a time when school just wasn’t working. That’s where we step in.

We don’t define young people by what’s gone wrong. Instead, we recognise what they bring with them: resilience, creativity, determination. Our role is to build on those strengths and back students to take their next steps with confidence.

Success here looks different for everyone. It might be gaining qualifications, improving attendance, learning a life skill, or finding the courage to try something new. Whatever the milestone, our focus is on progress that lasts.

At the heart of everything is safety and support. Our safeguarding culture ensures every young person is protected, respected, and given the space to thrive.
