Parenting Mental Health Support Team at West Sussex Mind offer support to parents and carers around West Sussex.

They are currently open to any parent or carer in West Sussex who is supporting a child/Young person (5-18) with their mental health. The overall objective of the service is to increase the knowledge and awareness of mental health and boost parent’s/carer’s confidence in coping with and addressing any issues with their child/young person. The aim is to provide a safe space for Parents and Carers to meet and exchange concerns, experiences, stories, what worked or hasn’t worked for them, ultimately providing ‘peer support’.

They offer the following:

Fortnightly Peer Support Groups for parents/carers via Zoom- This group gives parents/carers the opportunity  to check in, off load and give/receive emotional support and guidance to one another. Every other group involves having an ‘expert by experience’ who attends and talks about a specific mental health topic (anxiety, depression, self-harm, EBSA etc.) and provides details of lived experience and support.

Peer Support Circles – These run monthly at different venues around the county (currently in Lancing, Worthing, Bognor Regis, Horsham, Crawley and Midhurst). These groups are a place for parents/carers to meet other people who may share the same experiences and struggles.

1:1 Support from their support worker- this offers more personal support to parents/carers via telephone or face to face.

Monthly Virtual check in via zoom facilitated by their Peer Support Worker

Free training and webinars on various mental health topics

A closed Facebook group- where they post useful information and a private space for parents to ask questions to one another.

Newsletters containing useful info and notes from experts.

Parents/carers can self-refer through the Help Point- call 0300 303 5652 or email helppoint@westsussexmind.org.
