Democracy Awards

On Thursday 9th July APC were invited to send representatives to collect our ‘Bronze and Silver’ Democracy awards. The awards are in recognition of schools who managed to gain 50%+ participation in the UK wide Youth Parliament and Cabinet elections.

The Students who led the road-show, Sophie and Braddon, were chosen to represent all of WSAPC and accompanied Mr McConnell and Ms Wood to the Houses of Parliament in London to receive the awards. When collecting our awards from the Right Honourable Tim Loughton, MP for Worthing, Sophie gave an impromptu speech about APC and how being part of the Democracy project had made us feel ‘included’ and she thanked the organizers for the opportunity to participate. Sophie’s comments were included in the press release for the event. So many teachers came up to Mr McConnell and the organizers to express how amazing they thought Sophie was, perhaps one day Sophie will will be returning to the Houses of Parliament as an MP!

As part of the day we got a tour of Parliament and had a buffet lunch. We came back after an exciting and fulfilling day out with more crystal than we could carry (the awards and not the chandeliers!!)
