Strike Action This Wednesday

For your information, RMT strike action is planned for Wednesday 18 May. An updated timetable and information for Wednesday 18th May is available on the Southern web site at www.southernrailway.com/strike.  This customer advice page also includes information about services to be affected, ticket acceptance and alternatives, and compensation and refunds.

Southern have also asked that you are informed that they regret that Southern services continue to be affected by a high level of conductor sickness, which means they are being forced to cancel some services on other days. They will continue to update live departure boards and the online journey planner at www.nationalrail.co.uk with service amendments for each day as soon as information is available. Southern tickets are being accepted on Brighton & Hove bus services between Brighton and Shoreham, including Route 2.

West Sussex Special Educational Needs and Disability Strategy

West Sussex County Council are asking for your views on how they can strengthen education for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It is important for them to gather the views of West Sussex families, professionals, young people and many more on the new strategy which they are co-producing with nurseries, schools, colleges and parents.

Their consultation on the strategy has now gone ‘live’ and can be found here-

Strike Action on Govia Thameslink (including Southern) Railway

Parents, carers and staff should be aware that the RMT union has voted to take three 24-hour periods of strike action on 26/27 April, 10/11 May and 12/13 May. This action is likely to cause considerable disruption to rail services that staff and pupils may use.

The three potential strike periods are from 11.00am until 10.59am the following morning on the dates above. Details are available on http://www.southernrailway.com/southern/news/rmt-strike-action/
Should the action go ahead the website will inform customers of any changes to services.

Govia Thameslink have informed us they are continuing to seek dialogue with the RMT union and hope to avoid what they view as unnecessary and groundless action, and the consequent disruption.

Worth Less? An Update

Thanks again for all your support for this campaign to secure fairer funding for schools across West Sussex. Please find attached a letter from Sheila Carroll and Doug Thomas, our co- headteachers, with an update on the outcome of the campaign.

Parents 4 Parents

Parents for Parents (P4P) is a new parent-led initiative designed to offer early help through peer-to-peer support for parents.  It is open to all parents and it will provide non-judgemental support to parents through the parent volunteers harnessing and sharing the wider group parenting experience.  Currently the project is based at the Tree House CFC in Bersted.

More On Our Worthless? Campaign

Thanks to the work of local MPs and because of everyone’s support, we are pleased that a meeting with ministers from the Department for Education (DfE) will take place on Monday 8 February. Evidence is still needed, however, to show the strength of support for the campaign so we need every supporter to ‘like’ our latest social media post.
