West Sussex Alternative Provision College is a newly formed Alternative Provision, previously known as ‘The Links College (TLC)’. It is located in 8 separate locations, strategically sited to offer educational provision for the entire West Sussex County Council area. Due to the wide geographical area covered, the APC centres are nominally designated as being either ‘North’ or ‘South’.
The provision was formed in April 2013 and had its budget fully devolved in September 2013. The APC is led by two Co-Head Teachers who work closely with the Governing Body, and in partnership with West Sussex schools and professional agencies, to provide appropriate primary and secondary learning provision for a range of vulnerable and challenging students.
The APC provides up to 292 full time equivalent places for children and young people from West Sussex who have been permanently excluded, those at risk of exclusion, those out of school for medical reasons and those too sick to attend school.
The APC (North) serves students and their families and carers in Mid and North West Sussex. The main provision operates from two locations, one in Crawley and one in Burgess Hill. In addition to this, APC provides education for the young people who have been admitted to Beechfield Secure Children’s Home in Copthorne, and for those attending Chalkhill Education Centre, on site at Chalkhill Hospital in Haywards Heath.
The APC (South) serves those in the South and West of the County. APC centres are based in Lancing, Worthing (14-16 Centre), Littlehampton and Chichester (North Mundham).
We are a developing alternative provision that is continually striving to provide an effective and individualised education for our young people in a positive and safe learning environment. We work closely with parents/carers and external agencies to provide our pupils with the skills and tools necessary to achieve success, challenging and motivating them to improve their self-esteem and, ultimately, to achieve their full potential, both in their educational and social environments.
